Activities Praterm's core business is heating generation sector which includes:
Production of thermal energy
The main area of operations of Praterm (and the Polska Grupa Ciepłownicza) is the production and distribution of thermal energy for central heating, hot usable water and industrial thermal energy applications. At present, Praterm is the owner of 17 municipal heat generation systems (both sources and networks) and two thermal-electric power station. In the majority of cities, Praterm is the main supplier of thermal energy.
Modernisation work carried out on these heat generation systems has made it possible to attain considerable thermal energy production efficiency, improve the thermal comfort of users and significantly reduce emissions of CO2 and dusts. In addition, all cities attach considerable importance to the development of systems and connection of new consumers, which enables among others the elimination of low-emission sources. The prices of thermal energy in these cities are amongst the lowest in the entire region.
Modernization of heat generation systems
Praterm, due to its experience and unique technology is able to offer comprehensive modernization and automation of heating plants. The technology allows significant reduction of coal consumption - event up to 20%, and of electricity - up to 50%. The modernization can be also run without any capital expenditures from investors side. The cost of investments can be repaid from savings achieved due to modernization. Depending on the size of the plant, the payback period is 1 to 3 years usually. Such investments were already accomplished in for example EC (CHP) "Wieczorek" plant. The investment of PLN 4,5 million will be paid from savings achieved by the plant.
Privatization
The Praterm Group is very active on the HP privatization market in Poland. The HP in Sztum, acquired in 1998, was one of the very first to be privatized in Poland, and was accomplished successfully. In 2001 Praterm has acquired 2 Heating Plants and one Combine Heat-Power Plant. ently Company is in negotiation of further acquisitions and plans to continue its Group development.
Thanks to privatization, heating plant can acquire an investor, which will guarantee an access to financial resources, modern technologies, development perspectives and efficient management. Praterm's experience allows completing investments usually inaccessible for HP, development of the grid and connection of new customers and restructuring the HP. Also citizens benefit from privatization - they are guaranteed with competitive prices of heat and hot water as well as increase in quality of services. Moreover investments into modernization of the heating plant have direct impact on environment due to reductions of emissions of gas and dust as well as liquidation of law emission sources.
